My "Why": A Father's Wake-Up Call
For years, I was a
conventional family doctor,
trained and practicing
within the standard medical
system. I trusted that system.
Then, in 2001, that system
failed my own family.
My older daughter, just 2 years old, was trapped in a painful cycle of middle ear infections. For six long months, we followed the standard protocol: one round of antibiotics after another. The infections always came back. Finally, the specialist told me the next step was surgery to place PE tubes in her ears. As a doctor, I understood the recommendation. But as a father, something in me said, "NO. There has to be another way." That moment was my turning point. Spurred by a father's love, I began an intensive search, looking far "outside the box" of my conventional training. I read everything I could find and ultimately implemented three strategies the conventional path had missed. The result? No surgery, no more antibiotics, and no more ear infections. Ever. That was my "wake-up call". I realized there was a vast world of healing possibilities that my medical training had never touched. I immediately began my journey into a new way of thinking, and in 2002, I sat for the Board Exam in Integrative Holistic Medicine. The Head and The HeartThat experience with my older daughter taught me to apply my intellect—to never stop searching for the root cause. But my younger daughter taught me the other half of the equation. Her gift is her beautiful, courageous, and loving heart. From her, I learned what it means to truly listen with the heart and heal with love. This became my touchstone, my core belief: Unconditional Love is The greatest Healer. This is the balance I bring to my practice—the synthesis of my two daughters' lessons:1. The Intellect: To relentlessly investigate the "why" behind your symptoms.2. The Heart: To listen to your story with intuition and unconditional compassion. My Philosophy: A Diagnosis is Not Your DestinyIn 2004, I took over the practice of Dr Walter A. Ward – then known as Carolina Contemporary Medicine, PA which he founded in 1984. Piedmont Integrative Medicine, PA has become a place where healing could finally occur—a place where we align root-cause resolution with balance. My core philosophy is simple: A diagnosis should not be your destiny. You are not your "thyroid condition." You are not your "hormone imbalance." These are just labels for a system out of balance. My mission is to give you the framework to restore that balance.I've seen this work for over 25 years. It's why I get up every morning. It's the entire foundation of our signature program, the ‘7 Keys Method™,’ and the principles I teach in my book, What Healing Means To Me. Your "Why" is the anchor of your heart's truth. My practice exists to honor your "Why." So, take the first step. Provide us with your "Why," and together, we will provide you with the "Way" to balance your health. Dr. Alexander T.
